poems by Donald James Dolby
Why Do I Write Poetry?
I write poetry because it gives a chance for words to flow
From my pens and pencil which could never pass my lips.
I write because my feelings insist that they are aired
Painting pictures in my mind wrestling to be free
From my early morning meanderings
Which so easily float away.

I write because it sometimes gives to me
The strength to face tomorrow
It can also make me smile and hopefully others too
But most of all I write my poems, that’s the route I took
Because I’ve never had the patience to write a full-length book.
