poems by Donald James Dolby
When The Big Man Left The Band
His wailiing sax
is quiet now
His rockin’ blues
pumps out no more
A gaping hole
left by his soul
The Big Man has left the band.

E Street will never rock
quite as it did before
The Band will swing
the Boss will sing
The spirit of Clarence
forever present
But the Big Man has left the band.

For those who felt
that shaking sax
And those who shared
and those who simply heard
Will share that spark no more
tween the Boss and the Big Man
’Cos he has left the band.
