poems by Donald James Dolby
Brighton by the Sea
Did you see them arrive, the 600
Did you see them trickle in
to Brighton by the Sea?

Did you see the different shades
Did you hear the many voices
there for you and me?

Did you listen as they merged
Opinions on the floor
all in unity?

Did you notice when they argued
To elect or to appoint
to work for you and me?

Did you hear the common theme
Of progress for us all
complete equality?

Did you recognise the import
Of five long days in May
exhausting activity?

Did you see divisions melting
Did you spot our common problems
on which we can agree?

Did you see the bonds were growing
Moving on together
in Brighton by the Sea.
