poems by Donald James Dolby
If OnlyÉ
If Only the words If Only
had never been conceived
And all thoughts recalled were positive;
wrong choices not perceived
Would we then be free to move on
not tied to might have been
Could we not then have so much time
to make a world we've never seen.

Time is wasted, time is lost
wondering what we could have done
Let us use the time; progress our thoughts
the weapons for the battle to be won
Look forward to the day when we can raise the flag
from shore to far-flung shore
And people will be free; we will all be free
from If Only ever more.
